10 Fat Burning Cardio Exercises
Victor "VMan" Verhage, January 19, 2010

There seems to be a handful of cardio exercises that have been effective for years. Here I've compiled some crucial cardio workouts that have been around forever and can be used to mix things up.

1. Step ups have been used in aerobics for years. All you need is an elevated surface that you can step up and step down off of and you're good to go. It's a great cardio workout that also tones and sculpts the legs.

2. Stairs are a fabulous cardio routine that can be turned into an interval or repetition exercise. They get the heart rate going and will surely leave your legs feeling like jelly.

3. Hill or Incline running or walking on the treadmill is another great workout that not only builds cardiovascular strength but shreds your legs as well.

4. Skipping has been used by boxers and pro athletes for years as a cardio workout and gives both the legs and arms a great workout.

5. Cycling is a great low intensity cardio workout that just about everybody can do. You can even spice things up a bit by putting the bike in a higher gear to simulate hitting hills, there's tons of things you can do to make your ride more interesting.

6. Boxing/ MMA training is one of the most challenging cardio workouts but probably one of the best and quickest for building cardiovascular strength.

7. Swimming is another low-impact cardio workout that also works the entire body. You can do laps, pool running, or just tread water, there all extremely effective.

8. Interval training is probably the most popular cardio workout and is basically done by choosing a length of time to exercise at a higher heart rate intensity for and then recovering for that same time or even less. You then repeat this for 8-30 minutes depending on fitness level and goal.

9. Basketball court line drills are where you run from the out of bounds line to the first line and then sprint from one line to the next all the way to the opposite end of the court. Not only is this a great cardio routine but all the turning around works muscles in your legs that you probably didn't know existed.

10. Jumping jacks never grow old, it's no wonder why you always see people on shows like the Biggest Loser performing them and that's because they're an extremely effective cardio exercise.

Cardio training can be a lot of fun and as you do it more and more your body will be begin to crave it.
